These new public dashboards help highlight key trends and data related to health care that might otherwise go un-noticed; for example: Test scores for U.S. high school students fall below the ODEC average in Math Literacy, Science Literacy and Problem Solving. The average student/teacher ratio for elementary and secondary schools has dropped from 27 in 1955 to 15 in 2008. Until 1970, public schools had a lower student/teacher ration than private schools. This is now reversed – private schools now have a lower student/teacher ratio, and the gap is widening each year. The gap between private and public college tuition is steadily increasing on an annual basis. Colleges in New England have the highest average tuition, followed by the Midwest, Middle States, Southwest, West, and South, in that order.
